This essay should be about addressing the protagonist in The Crucible, John Proctor’s Emersonian characteristics using quotes from both The Crucible and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Self-Reliance. I already have the quotes (from both sources) ready for you to put into the essay and a brief outline about what I it to be about, please follow the outline. I do have a thesis ready, but the grammar and phrasing might not be correct so please do make any changes as you wish.
Outline:
Thesis Statement:
Even though one may argue that John Proctor gets himself involved and betrayed his own feelings to save his wife, he still prohibits Emersonian features through his acts of adultery, attitudes against authority(the Protestant Church).

-Adultery with Abigail (Follow your heart, do what you want)
-Against the Protestant church (Follow your heart, society corrupts individual, don’t need to follow the society)
-Disliked by everybody but still lives his life happily (Don’t take what other people say about you seriously, your opinion matters the most)
